About Us

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY KINDERGARTEN?

Community Kindergartens offer an alternative to on-site state school based Kindergartens. Community Kindergartens operate from purpose built facilities and playgrounds that are usually leased from local government.

Teachers are appointed by the Department of Education and the Kindergartens are managed by parent committees in co-operation with teachers and the local community. Being a Community Kindergarten means we rely on Community Support and funding to operate including grants, donations and volunteers.

Lower King Community Kindergarten was established in 1977 as a not for profit organisation and has been an integral part of the Lower King community for as long as some of us can remember! The maximum placements are 20 per intake year.

The Kindy feeds to Flinders Park Primary School and its hours are set to fit pick ups and drop off times from the school.

Parent Committee

As parents of a student at Lower King Community Kindy, the involvement of parents and the community is essential.  During the AGM each year, a committee of dedicated people are elected to represent needs of the families of the students and be responsible for the financial management and the day–to-day operation of the centre. The community kindergarten staff together with the Parent Committee work together to provide a learning program and environment that best meets the needs of the students from the local community.

The Committee can be reached by email: lowerkingkindy@outlook.com
